Become a Role Model
We are looking for passionate, inspiring young women and gender-diverse youth from across Nova Scotia to help young people discover exciting, rewarding, and often unknown careers in these dynamic sectors. Representation matters — when youth see people like them succeeding in these fields, they begin to see those opportunities as possible for themselves. As a role model, you can get involved in different ways, depending on how much time you want to commit.
Techsploration Team Role Model
Period: January – May
Time required: approximately 3–4 days
Team Role Models (TRMs) are paired with a group of up to eight Grade 9 all-girl students from a Nova Scotia school. Together, they prepare a career presentation focused on the TRM’s occupation and career path. TRMs organize a workplace visit with hands-on activities, share reflections on their career journey, and provide feedback as the team develops its presentation. The experience culminates in a one-and-a-half-day Techsplorer Event in April or May, where students deliver their final presentations and take part in career exploration activities.
Techsploration Guest (on rotation): Role Model
Period: fall and spring
Time required: approximately 4 hours per event
Guest Role Models (GRMs) take part in Techsploration events to inspire young participants — women and gender-diverse youth — by sharing their STEM career experiences. GRMs may lead workshops or take part in rotation sessions (career-fair-style activities where student teams visit stations to learn about different occupations and career paths). Each station is usually hosted by an employer, often with several GRMs ready to share their knowledge.
